WASHINGTON POST POSTS RAVE REVIEW >
The Washington Post's Buzz McClain wrote the following review of Rodney Crowell's recent performance at the Barns at Wolf Trap, published in the October 5 edition of the paper:
"It's difficult to imagine Rodney Crowell delivering a more exquisite show than he did Wednesday night. The Barns at Wolf Trap -- acoustically perfect, with a sold-out, beguiled audience -- clearly inspired the artist, and he played his songs with the startling command of someone verifying his relevance.
"Crowell's hitmaking days in Nashville were long behind him until the alternative country crowd rediscovered him at the turn of the new century and energized his career. His 2001 album The Houston Kid reflected new maturation as a songwriter as he composed intensely personal songs about his troubled past, creating solidly crafted stories of menace and joy set to intricate melodies on an acoustic guitar.
"His performances of 'The Man in Me,' 'Highway 17' and 'Leaving Louisiana in the Broad Daylight' set a standard other singer-songwriters can only admire. He introduced 'U Don't Know How Much I Hate U' by saying, 'And now for some real venom,' and he didn't disappoint. Not once."

WITH JOHN EDWARDS AT THE RYMAN >
The John Edwards Rural Recovery Plan was meant to be unveiled at the Ryman Auditorium on Monday (April 16) with a great deal of television and press coverage. The events unfolding that morning at Virginia Tech (itself one of the oldest land grant Universities in the South) rendered a political rally an inappropriate gesture. It was John Edwards who proposed we shift our focus to the healing powers of music and the time honored traditions embodied by the Ryman. I was the appointed master of ceremonies for the event, a role I readily accepted due to my support of John Edwards, who in conversation I have found to be anything but a slick politician. The man is a master victims' rights
advocate. It is my view the middle and lower class in our country has been victimized by corporate greed, neo-conservative self-interest and liberal vapidity. We the people need an advocate whose loyalties are not tied to the money sources financing his or her campaign. A populist. It is my hope John Edwards distinguishes himself as the populist president. In the end the Ryman show was a bittersweet and ultimately respectful affair . . . . peace, Rodney Crowell
